Art: Nathan Walsh

I recently came across the work of Nathan Walsh and was impressed to say the least.
At first I thought to myself "Oh, a picture of Chicago!" and then I realized...it was not a picture but a painting!
Then I thought, "Ok, so the artist takes a nice picture and uses it as reference for size, color, etc." Wrong again!!!!!
The process Nathan Walsh uses to create such realistic art works is incredible. Each work takes about 3 to 4 months to complete and it starts with just a box of pencils and eraser. Walsh sketches what he sees and later uses it as reference in his studio, where he alters proportions to create the most realistic scene.

"By using simple mathematical ratios I can begin to describe concrete form within my picture plane. Over a period of time I will draw and redraw buildings, manipulating their height, width or nature in relation to other pictorial elements. By introducing spatial recession to these elements I aim to present a world the viewer can enter into and move around."

Isn't it amazing?! Now, imagine one his works hanging in your living room... it creates a nice modern ambiance
Take a look at the process and his final work.
